Did you know?

Doves do not like Rice Crackers... in fact, they hate them so much that they fly away when they are frisbeed in their direction.

A pure hatred for rice like I have never seen before.

ahousenearyou Concert Review

Darren Hanlon - Friday 6/7/2001 at the Wild West Sports Saloon.

I've been a fan of Darren Hanlon since I first heard "Falling Aeroplanes" so it was with delight when John called and told us he was playing that we grabbed a traveler each and headed to the Wild West Sports Saloon.

All of ahousenearyou bar Sammi attended... Sammi was thinking about other things. Unfortunately, this means that we have no photos.

We'd heard that this gig was approaching, but we'd thought it was at a different venue right up until the night. $6 was all that was charged... bargain...I thought, as I paid $7 and said to keep the change.

A small crowd was in attendance, much smaller than I would have expected, the short notice of the visit would have accounted for this I believe. But for those of us who was there, it made for an "intimate" performance.

Darren songs came across great live, supplemented by the stories that go along with them. Darren was backed by Freida, she was awesome... and played the glockenspiel magnificently too...she later informed me that it had taken her 4 years of university to play it so well, and would take her another 2 years to be able to play it without laughing. Good luck with that Freida.

The only dissapointing thing about this gig was the fact that as it went on, normal pub goers came in, and displaying the brains of a drunk airhostesses that thinks it's fine to play 8-ball over a live gig at a small venue, decided to play 8-ball, did I mention it was a small venue? But they got some evil looks from a couple of people, and Darren gave them shit at some point about the song being in 2/4 and asked them to hit the balls on the second and fourth thingy of every thingy. It was much better when Darren said it, cos he knows more about music than me.

Darren and Freida were great after the gig, they stayed around and chatted. Darren signed the Butcher's mobile telephone and a poster for us.

But the clincher, they both agreed to be interviewed by a house near you. Butcher was very persistant. Follow the link to read Freida or Darren's interview.

If you get the chance to check these guys out. Don't pass it up. Hopefully they'll be back here soon.
