Tales of Ibrahim... our sponsorship of a Tanzanian child.

When we interview people that visit our house, one of the questions we ask is "Have you ever sponsored a starving child?". Of the 55 people we have interviewed, less than 10 have ever sponsored a child. And only 3 could even remember the name of the kid they sponsored.

Sponsoring a starving child through World Vision is $35 per month, the same cost as 1 carton of beer. Examining the image of our trash on cleanup day, it's plainly clear that we can cope with 1 less carton per month.

We also consider this child to be an investment. He'll be entertaining. It'll be like a game of The Sims, but we won't have to do any work... he'll be like a Tamagotchi, but we won't have to press buttons.

We can be great role models for the little fella. We can teach him about the ways of the world and coping with the troubles of life as he grows older. In return, he can teach us what it's like to be really hungry all the time and struggling with disease.

I look forward to seeing him grow, and seeing what our $35 a month will do for him. Perhaps he'll buy a carton of beer for his daddy with it? But I'm hoping it will go to use for food, water and his education. Perhaps even vaccination from disease.
