Mischief, tom-foolery, heavy drinking. you will most definately find
it at a house near you.
October of the year 2000 saw 4 guys move out into a share house. Each
with an appetite for fun and beer. Originally, the house consisted of
Matty, Stu,
Butcher and Si.
After getting a new job far away, Si moved out and Patty
and Elissa moved in. They
lasted a couple of months, before moving out to their own place. The house
contained just 3 people for a while, thenSammi
moved in.
We'd decided way back when Si was living with us that we should have
a website for the house. We had quite a few ideas for it but we basically
lacked drive and a few of the skills required to really make a go of it.
Sammi provided that spark.
The site has pretty much been swinging since early June. It's become
an outlet for us to express ourselves creatively and a place for us to
show what we're doing and express our opinions on things. It's not so
much a journal of our life, just a little bit about what's going on in
it and what we enjoy.
What happens when you visit ahousenearyou.com?
We have been conducting some tests to see if visitors of our site are
reaching our goal.
Test 1.
Bringing happiness to the world, and making everyone lives better through
exposing ourselves to an many people as possible on our website and therefore
increasing worldwise happiness and joy.
Here are some of the results of our testing.
These tests were done under supervision, and were a simulation of
what the everyday user may experience.
A typical person before visiting our site...

Cruising along ok. indifferent about the world, but content enough to
not care about that indifference. This is sad to us - we don't think that
people, in general should be so mundane, so we try and and adda little
spark. Try and make just a small difference, because we genuinely care
about humanity.
This is the same person after a short visit to our site...

Notice the subtle differences?
We graphed the results...

As you can see - there is exponential growth in the happiness of a user
of our site. If we achieve this result from a user, we have reached our
goal. This could (in theory) lead to eXXXXtreme happiness, a condition
that allows someone to reach a peak that has never before been reached
by a human. This mythical term 'eXXXXtreme happiness' leads me to our
next test.
Test 2.
Give people a great rise after visiting our site, thus increasing worldwide
pleasure, as frequency of rises increases. These images speak for themselves.
This was the photo that we took before visiting our site.

Then after browsing our site for just a few minutes, the effect was rather
phenomenal.
See below,
*SURGEON GENERAL'S WARNING*
* THE NEXT PHOTOGRAPH MAY GIVE YOU A RISE - IF YOU DON"T HAVE ONE
ALREADY*

Again, the graph was quite ipressive.

Ahousenearyou's mission is to entertain. If we can make you laugh, we're
happy. If we're making you laugh then we're most probably laughing as
we write. We do this because we enjoy it. A
Day Without Hands is an example of this. Your average group of guys
might say "I wonder what it'd be like to spend a day without hands?".
When we posed this question we said "lets find out and put it on
our site, that'll be funny."
Not everybody likes our site. We received a bit of a pasting from a couple
of John Butler trio fans after we wrote
a fairly negative review of the band. This was pretty much the first time
the site had made any sort of impact on people other than our friends
in real life. Their comments inspired us, made us realise that we could
reach out to people and they would listen to what we had to say.
